Fervente repubblicano legato a Cesare Correnti e protagonista dell'opp osizione lombarda alla dominazione austriaca, costretto a rifugiarsi i n Piemonte nel 1848. Tornato a Milano, fu grande filantropo, president e prima dell'Ospedale Maggiore e poi della Congregazione di carità (m assima istituzione dell'assistenza milanese). Sua erede fu la figlia L eopoldina.
